still alive

by heart on Jun.15, 2009, under just words

14 floors above the sidewalks below
your whispers are cold against the belt
hands on glass, stammering to steady feet
a rush and a push and this land is ours
eyes lit up by the stars above this city
fingers locked - the tempo rises
hearts start smashing through bones
through flesh and the hands that try to hold it in
wake up an hour later across the desks
and tomorrow it will being again

the smell of wet sidewalks and cloves…

by heart on May.12, 2009, under just words

the storm settled into our neighborhood just past three in the afternoon. a subtle rain and light wind at first that pushed your bangs around as we sat on the front steps.
“we’re going to sit this one through”, followed by that smile. a flash of light and sirens started in the distance, a quiet whine behind the stereo that sounds through the window.
who saw us there as the sun fell in the sky, who passed through that night with us?

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

by heart on Apr.23, 2009, under just words

the scream of guitars, the clash of cymbals and the silvertint voice in ruby conversations is all i remember of a russian princess as teacup castles collide with comets.
the sharp edges that push into me as our bumper cars of ice smash into each other under the disco lights and hours later we lay in cold puddles and the blur of colors and feels take shape once again.

two thousand and three as the sun rises into it’s wet velvet morning and damn you’re cute when you yawn. :)

10 bands to steal

by heart on Apr.12, 2009, under music

Was in a conversation a bit ago about how i seem to shine the jeweler’s pennies when it comes to people liking my tunes. so i thought it would be fun to put down the top 10 bands that i somehow found along the way, but ended up being other peoples cup of tea as well. some are super obvious, ie. the smiths; surely i didn’t stumble upon them in a used record bin somewhere in the south of north dakota, they got decent airplay on the radio, but that doesn’t mean many people really unearthed the treasure chest.

. the cure - exactly, sure you knew the singles. whippy dee
. the smiths - there’s a light that never goes out on the dance floor but did you ever go back to the old house?
. bauhaus - aw, you knew bela lugosi, that’s cute, but small talk stinks?
. low - it’s so much more than words.
. my bloody valentine - soft as snow…
. pale saints - fine friend, you’re a fine friend.
. red house painters - things mean a lot.
. sky cries mary - more than just a return to the inner experience, oddly though, i feel like i have outgrown this band.
. moose - the butterfly collector killed the caterpillars.
. cocteau twins- fuck yes, i will claim them, in yo face! hehehe

there are more that i could put down; this mortal coil, gene, the dears, bhp, piano magic, the cranes, interpol, ride, the sundays, the autumns, curve, sad lovers & giants, trembling blue stars… but they haven’t had the mass appeal as those above. Mad thanks tho to the people that continue to show me amazing new music - the magnificent reid, the amazing stephanie, and of course, the smashing rosie! we should all go hit amoeba then get burgers!!

this day it rained outside the sty

by heart on Apr.11, 2009, under just words

Charlie was a sleepy pig
had about one hundred wigs
a bed of wigs is where he lay
no bed of mud or stones or twigs
the other pigs would ask to play
but Charlie chose to sleep all day
making the pigs begin to cry
until they sadly walked away
this day it rained outside the sty
no sun to make the bacon fry
those pigs would wander all around
wishing for wigs to keep heads dry
the rain hit hard upon the ground
and suddenly there was no sound
Charlie awoke and wore a frown
when he found out that all his friends had drowned.

you had such dreams when you entered the cereal bowl

by heart on Apr.01, 2009, under just words

silly cornflakes sitting in a bowl of bitter, curdled milk, lacking taste and substance
so static happy being nowhere, with nobody, doing nothing
i love placing the bowl under the faucet and watching them flow over the side of the bowl and down the drain
i go on with my day, and they float away to the sea
soggy, poopy, and separating mush before they reach the end of the block

i like cookies

by heart on Mar.31, 2009, under just words

tuesday morning
you, making cookies in the kitchen
i’ll never get tired of sneaking up behind you,
hands on your hips and pushing your hair aside to kiss your skinny throat
the way you trap my ankles and don’t let me go
a forest explodes into towering flames and we live in it for a moment
and we eat perfect cookies and laugh at the news
and there really isn’t anything more… is there
